Iraq fears of the British proposal
Iraq-UN, Politics, 6/18/1999
The Iraqi side has received the British proposal for suspending UN sanctions imposed on Iraq with welcome, accompanied by anxiety and caution.
Iraqi Minister of Trade Mohamed Mahdi Saleh stated that his country sees in the British proposal a positive development in London's stance concerning the Iraqi crisis, yet the Iraqi government is still cautious due to its previous experiences with Britain.
The Iraqi minister expressed his hope that the United Nations Security Council would release a decision to finally lift the sanctions from his country.
