US First Lady, Hillary Rodham Clinton, dedicated on Thursday a surgery ward at the Fez maternity hospital.
The spouse of President Bill Clinton, who arrived the same day in Morocco with her daughter Chelsea, hailed Morocco's efforts to fight mother and infant mortality.
She hailed the Moroccan-US cooperation in matters of mother and child health and voiced hope that the Fez maternity hospital will be a model for other medical institutions in Morocco.
The US Agency for International Development (USAID) contributed $ 2.4 million for the rehabilitation and equipment of the Fez maternity.
Some 100 daily deliveries are recorded in the Maternity whose capacity reaches 4,000 deliveries annually. The refurbishing of the surgery ward endows the Fez region with structures allowing for caesarean operations.
