Israeli investment in Jordan
Jordan-Israel, Economics, 6/18/1999

The Jordanian paper al-Sabeel reported that an Israeli official delegation had held a very secret visit to al-Karak province, southern Jordan, last week.

The paper added that the visit of the Israeli delegation, which included the Israeli ambassador in Amman and a group of Israeli experts, came to complete an agricultural investment project that the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture is trying to establish in al-Msherfey district on the outskirts of al-Karak city within the framework of an official agreement between Jordan and Israel.

The paper, quoted well-informed sources in Amman as saying that, "There is an active move carried out by unknown sides" which buy vast areas of al-Karak territory area at very high prices.

The paper's sources added that vast areas of Wadi Araba lands that used to be owned by the government were in fact sold at very low prices to the Israelis to encourage the process of building the area.
