Morocco earned in 1998 over $ 1.61 billion in tourism receipts recording a 19 % increase compared to the returns posted in 1997. Addressing Tuesday the chamber of Advisors (senate), Moroccan tourism minister, Hassan Sebbar, said his department -- which invests annually around $ 9 million in promotion campaigns-- has set an ambitious plan to gain four million tourists in the few coming years and increase the country's accommodation capacity.

The Egyptian Businessmen's Association plans to hold a business meeting with Dutch businessmen on June 21, Saeed El-Tawil, the head of the assembly, said. The World Day to Combat Desertification is to be observed tomorrow. Lena Poulsen, Technical Adviser in the Office to Combat Desertification and Drought of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), said the occasion would highlight the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, dealing with drylands, which cover 40 of the world's total landmass.
