Esmat Abdul Meguid to visit Damascus on June 26

Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid is to head to Damascus on June 26 to take part in the meetings of Arab parliamentarians and to hold bilateral meetings with leaders of parliaments in Arab states, during which he will discuss the development of the regional situation and Arab issues in international circles, especially the peace process and the situation in Iraq.
Abdul Meguid is to meet with Syrian President Hafez al-Assad to discuss the development of the peace process and Arab initiative during the coming period within the framework of the election of the new Israeli prime minister and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's call to convene a five-fold Arab summit.
Abdul Meguid is also to meet with Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa to discuss the development of the situation in Iraq and the lasting shelling of the US and Britain of southern and northern Iraq.
