Egypt intensifies contacts with Arab leaders to hold expanded Arab summit
Regional, Politics, 6/16/1999

Egypt's deputy at the Arab League, ambassador Wagih Hamdy, stated that the contacts and consultations held currently by President Mubarak with several Arab leaders aim at preparing for convening an expanded Arab summit.

During his visit to Rabat and his meeting with King Hassan II, Mubarak called for holding an Arab summit.

Mubarak, moreover, said that Egypt, as the current president of the Arab summit, will seek to discuss the suitable date and place for convening the Arab summit when the Arab leaders approve holding it soon, confirming Egypt's condition that there must be good preparation for this summit to achieve practical and serious outcomes serving Arab issues and seeking to dedicate a new Arab strategy to deal with the expected developments in the peace process in light of the new Israeli government chaired by Ehud Barak.
