Jamil El-Hujeilan: Gulf Cooperation Council position is unchanging on three disputed islands
Gulf, Politics, 6/15/1999
Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary General Jamil El-Hujeilan stated that the GCC's stance toward the case of three Gulf islands, whose sovereignty is subject of a dispute between GCC member state the United Arab Emirates and Iran, is unchanging.
At his arrival in Kuwait coming from Qatar in his Gulf tour, he emphasized the support of the GCC for the UAE in its insistance on the need for Iran's withdrawal from the islands and to resolve the issue peacefully.
Disputes increased between Saudi Arabia and the UAE after the Saudi - Iranian rapprochement which was viewed as violating previous resolutions of GCC and the Arab League council on the disputed islands. El-Hujeilan's tour aims at rectifying the atmosphere between Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
