Tantawi, Shenuda take part in a religious dialogue at Vatican
Regional-Egypt-Vatican, Religion, 6/14/1999
Mohammed Sayed Tantawi, Al Azhar's Sheik, along with Coptic Pope Shenuda III are to take part in a conference for dialogue between the religions that is to be held in October, after receiving invitations from Pope John Paul II.
During three-day conference, about 200 representatives and leaders of different religions factions (Jews, Christians and Muslims) are to meet in discussion groups aimed at reconciling the religions and confronting ethnic and factional fanaticism.
The organizations of the conference will call on the participants to practice their religious rituals at Saint Peter's to confirm the understanding and approach between religions.
On the other hand some Moslem Imams in Cairo refused to take part in the conference because of Israeli Jewish men of religions' participation and Israeli's continuation of occupying Arab territories.
