Iraq, Politics, 6/14/1999

The Iraqi authorities have released a decision which calls for imposing three-month prison sentences against anyone who begs in public roads or areas or who enters any house or supermarket for the purpose of begging.
The decision which was published by the Iraqi dailies on Sunday said this penalty will be increased to one year imprisonment if the beggar pretends that he is wounded of deformed. This decision was released shortly after several dailies highlighted the issue of escalated begging at the traffic points in the Iraqi satreets.
