King Hassan II - President Mubarak meeting will serve Arab, peace causes
Morocco-Egypt, Politics, 6/12/1999
The meeting to be held this weekend in Morocco between King Hassan II and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak will serve Arab and peace causes, Moroccan Prime Minister Abderrahmane Youssoufi said.
Youssoufi told Egyptian Middle East News Agency MENA that Mubarak's visit will be an opportunity to give a new impetus to bilateral economic and commercial cooperation.
Touching on the new evolutions in the Middle East following the election of Labor leader Ehud Barak as prime minister in Israel, Youssoufi said Arab leaders are called to assess the new situation and coordinate positions to come out with a plan that will help them face up the future developments in the region.
King Hassan II and President Mubarak, who enjoys a great experience, can reach a joint action plan in this connection, he said.
Youssoufi also called for the institution of a periodical and regular Arab summit like the European summit which meets regularly to debate issues ranging from agriculture to immigration and finances to ensure the stability and progress of Europe.
Regarding the Arab common market, Youssoufi said the project started to be revived with the conclusion of free trade area accords between several Arab states, including Morocco and Egypt.
Such accords, Youssoufi said, will surely pave the way for inter-Arab economic complementarity and stimulate trade exchange.
