Russian minister stresses resuming cooperation with Libya
Libya-Russia, Politics, 6/11/1999
Russian Minister of Emergency Affairs Sergy Shoygu has called for resuming military cooperation between Moscow and Tripoli.
In a meeting convened by the Russian ministry on Thursday, the Russian minister, who presides over the joint committee for cooperation with Libya, said that in the past Tripoli has bought Russian weapons at a cost of US $18 billion, and these weapons are at the meantime in need of repair and maintenance.
He added that lifting sanctions imposed on Libya makes it necessary to "develop mutual interests cooperation" with it. For his part, the Russian prime minister said this matter "should be thought for thoroughly."
