Morocco's vaccination campaigns cover 80 % of targeted children
Regional-Morocco, Health, 6/10/1999
The child vaccination campaigns launched annually in Morocco cover 80% of the targeted children, a Moroccan pediatrician said Wednesday before a conference on "Mother-Child Health" held in Cairo.
The Moroccan physician said further that Morocco has managed to eradicate Polio thanks to sustained medical efforts to protect the child's health against the major killer diseases.
He said around 60% of Moroccan women use contraceptive means and stressed that TB-coverage rate in the kingdom amounts to 98%.
The Moroccan physician told the Cairo conference that Morocco organizes every year National Vaccination Days, part of a long term strategy to protect mother and child from killer diseases such as tetanus, tuberculosis, diphtheria, measles and whooping cough.
Every year one of these killer diseases is targeted by the National Vaccination campaign which has scored so far positive results both in urban and rural zones.
Last year's campaign targeted polio and tetanus. Moroccan health officials said some 3 million children under five received their oral polio vaccines and some 1.2 women in procreation age were vaccinated against tetanus.
