Five persons killed in an attack on the hall of justice in Sidon

Turkish President Suleiman Demirel is to visit Egypt in the last week of July to hold discussions with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Israeli President Ezer Weizman met on Tuesday in occupied Jerusalem with Patrick Seale, the writer of Syrian President Hafez al-Assad's biography. Israeli Army Radio quoted Weizman as saying following the meeting that he will not ask Seale to convey any messages to President al-Assad as he (Weizman) does so through President Mubarak and US President Bill Clinton. The Arab conference on women's reproductive health and the child on Tuesday continued discussions on drawing up an Arab health map and to discuss conditions of research conducted in ten Arab states on the health of the woman and the child. The Algerian dailies al-Muhaqiq and al-Youm reported on Tuesday in Algiers that Algerian President Abdul Aziz Bouteflika may hold a referendum at the beginning of autumn or following the African summit in order to have the Algerians take part in the proper decision towards the national reconciliation and the declared truce by the armed wing of the banned Islamic Salvation Front. Lebanese security sources said Israeli heavy artillery on Tuesday shelled the areas of al-Zahrani river, Jabal al-Rafe, the deserted Lebanese army barracks in Nabatieh and the surroundings of Habboush, Arab Salim and al-Fawqa towns. Plantations and properties were damaged as a result of the bombardment, the sources added. Go

Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, who is also the chairman of the Saudi National Guard, on Tuesday in Riyadh received a message from Argentine President Carlos Menem. Israeli Prime Minister-elect Ehud Barak met on Tuesday night with British journalist and intellectual Patrick Seale. Lebanese President Emile Lahoud Tuesday received the chairman of the US delegation to the April Understanding Monitoring Committee, Richard Erdman. Jordan today celebrates King Abdullah's investiture, as June 9 of every year is considered the day of royal investiture which is a day off for all the country and its establishment and celebrations are held in all parts of the country on this occasion. As of today the name of King Abdullah will be King Abdullah II. In the same day King Abdullah will award Queen Rania Abdullah with the Hussein Bin Ali medal. As of today the annual celebration of King Hussein's investiture and his birthday will be cancelled. Go

Libyan leader Col. Moammar Gaddafi met on Monday night in Tripoli with Sierra Leone President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah to discuss means of settling border disputes between several African countries. Libyan television said that Gaddafi and Kabbah discussed the situation in Africa, especially the efforts exerted to restore peace to the African continent in general and in Sierra Leone in particular.
