Damascus: police foiled a stealing attempt at the National Museum
Syria, Local, 6/9/1999
Guards at the National Museum in Damascus foiled an attempt to steal archaeological pieces from the museum on Friday night and arrested the thieves.
Sources at the general directorate for antiquities and museums said that one thief tried by breaking the outdoor lock to steal valuable pieces, but the guards foiled the attempt and brought in the police.
In this regard, the director general of the Syrian antiquities and museums, Sultan Muheisin, asked the secretary general of the antiquities and museums in Egypt, Gaballah Gaballah, to provide his directorate with a protection system similar to that used for the antiquities in Egypt, which is a more advanced system.
