Tunis frees al-Marzouki
Tunisia, Politics, 6/8/1999
The France-based Arab committee on human rights said that the first investigation judge in Tunisia on Monday freed its chairman Munsif al-Marzouki who was arrested on Saturday while heading to attend an anti-torture meeting.
The committee said the investigating judge accused al-Marzouki, who is an activist in the human rights area, of violating "public security" and of working with banned associations (the National Council in Defense of Freedom).
The committee added that the judge submitted al-Marzouki's case before the court on July 5 and set a law preventing him from travelling outside Tunisia.
