On meetings between President al-Assad, Crown Prince Abdullah in Damascus
Syria-Saudi Arabia, Politics, 6/8/1999

The Paris-based al-Muharrir News has said that Syrian President Hafez al-Assad and Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz agreed during their talks held last week in Damascus to convene a Syrian, Saudi and Egyptian summit that would prepare for convening a comprehensive Arab summit.

The paper added that the two sides also agreed to prevent hurrying towards the Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak by the Arab states and assure the commitment of these states to the resolutions of the Cairo summit of 1996, which called for halting normalization with Israel.

The paper quoted Syrian sources close to Damascus as saying that the Syrian-Saudi talks centered on three key issues: the possibility of resuming the Middle East peace process, arranging Arab conditions and bilateral relations.
