Egypt prohibits importing of chicken form EU

Egyptian Minister of Trade and Supply Ahmed Goweili announced yesterday that Egypt is halting imports of chicken, eggs and their derivatives from the countries of European Union.
Official sources in the Ministry of Trade and Supply confirmed that Goweili has issued a decision also prohibiting the importation of frozen chicken, fearing that it will containing eggs contaminated with dioxin, which causes cancer.
The organization for protecting consumer in Brussels has announced that the first of the goods polluted with dioxin includes more than 100 Belgian products, including chicken, formula for infants, artificial and natural milk, yogurt and butter.
Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain have also prohibited imports of chicken meat and eggs from Belgium, deciding to confiscate goods produced after mid-January, 1999.
