Moussa meets with US ambassador to Israel
Egypt-USA, Politics, 6/7/1999
Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa yesterday received Edward Walker, the US ambassador in Israel.
Walker said after the meeting that he reviewed with Moussa the situation in the area in light of the latest developments in Israel, adding that he conveyed special remarks regarding Israeli Prime Minister-elect Ehud Barak's tendencies and the future of the peace process in light of these tendencies.
Walker expressed his optimism regarding motivating the peace process saying that the coming days will allow the formation of a better picture as Barak forms his government.
Regarding the recent statements by Martin Indyk, the U.S assistant secretary of state, which called on the Arabs not to exaggerate their optimism, Walker said, "We know that the coming causes -- matters of negotiation -- are very difficult."
Walker denied that he is carrying any message from the US government to the Egyptian government, saying that his visit aims at exchanging points of view.
