Jordanian king meets with Syrian transport minister

King Abdullah Bin Hussein of Jordan on Sunday in Amman received Syrian Transport Minister Mufid Abdul Karim and members of the accompanying delegation.
The Syrian minister told the king about what was agreed upon during the meetings of the Syrian and Jordanian sides and the results of works of the general assembly of the Syrian-Jordanian Maritime Transport Company (SJMTC) and the Syrian Jordanian Company for Maritime Navigation (SJCMN).
In a statement to SANA's correspondent following the meeting with King Abdullah, the Syrian minister said he briefed the king about the agreement reached by the Syrian and Jordanian sides for setting up a bridge between Aqaba port and the port of Tartous, as well as aspects of cooperation in the fields of naval, railway and air transportation.
King Abdullah, on the other hand, expressed backing and interest for maintaining good results brought about by the two sides. The king stressed the importance of developing joint work between the two "sisterly countries."
Earlier in the day, Jordanian Premier Abdul Raouf al-Rawabdeh met with the Syrian minister and his companions. The two sides reviewed the topics discussed during the meeting and the agreements reached in the field of transportation. The Jordanian Prime minister stressed the need to develop relations between the two countries in all domains.
Later in the day, the Syrian minister and his Jordanian counterpart visited the headquarters of the Syrian - Jordanian Company for Land Transportation and inspected its work performance and services it renders.
Meanwhile, the general association of the Syrian - Jordanian Company for Land Transportation held a meeting in Amman on Sunday under the chairmanship of the Syrian minister and his Jordanian counterpart, Jamal al-Sarayra.
The two sides discussed the company's activities and future plans.
Several meetings were due on Sunday to discuss issues relating to aviation, seaports, railways and land transport. The two sides were also due to debate ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation and to sign the minutes of the meetings.
Facilities will be given to border checkpoints between the two states for easing transport, while the Damascus - Amman airline will resume operation very soon.
