Lebanese president visits liberated Jezzine, resistance escalated
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 6/7/1999

President Emile Lahoud of Lebanon on Saturday stressed Syria's support for Lebanon and the unity of the position among the Lebanese people and army.

During a tour he made on Saturday on the liberated southern Lebanese town of Jezzine, already liberated from the pro-Israeli South Lebanon Army militia, the Lebanese president stressed the continuation of the Lebanese resistance until all the Israeli-occupied Lebanese territories are completely liberated.

The Lebanese president gave assurances of the return of sovereignty and legitimacy to Jezzine, asserting that occupation is the source of all troubles and concerns. The Lebanese president called on the people who left Jezzine to return to their town, making it clear that fears are eliminated since there is an independent judiciary. On the fate of the Israeli-allied militia's members, the Lebanese president said they should go to court for trial, stating that justice must eventually rule.

Meanwhile, Israeli occupation forces on Sunday bombarded several towns adjacent to the occupied part of south Lebanon. Lebanese security forces said the Israeli bombardment targeted the surrounding of al-Hamra farm, the Litani river area, the outskirts of the towns of Hadatha, Eita al-Jabal, and Barachit, al-Zaatar mountain, Kafra and Yater.

The Lebanese sources continued that the Israeli forces opened fire on woods and valleys neighboring the occupation positions in Hadatha, Beit Yahoun and Barachit. The sources indicated that the occupation forces renewed their bombardment on the towns of Kafra, Yater and al-Asi and Serbin.

At dawn Sunday, the Lebanese resistance attacked the Israeli forces in the occupation position in Balat inside the occupied part of south Lebanon. Lebanese resistance sources said the attack resulted in direct hits on the elements of the Israeli forces.

Meanwhile, new arrivals from the occupied part of south Lebanon said an armed clash took place among the pro-Israeli militiamen near al-Khayam town. Several soldiers were killed or wounded. They said clash erupted due to a dispute concerning the confiscation of several houses in the Jezzine area.

Moreover, the Lebanese resistance on Saturday morning carried out a number of operations against the Israeli occupation forces in the occupied part of south Lebanon.

In a statement the resistance said one of its groups ambushed an Israeli force in Mlineh. The statement added that the resistance fighters achieved direct hits.

Another resistance group attacked the al-Radar and Teir Harfa positions. The operation was successful and scored direct hits.

Further reports from south Lebanon said that Israeli warplanes raided Dliton near Jaba' town in south Lebanon. Lebanese security sources said the Israeli jets dropped rockets against the targeted area.
