Eight gunmen killed in Algeria

The Algerian daily al-Shaab issued on Sunday said that Algerian security forces killed eight gunmen from the Armed Islamic Group during a vast mopping-up operation carried out by Algerian security sources in the suburbs of Khamis Melyana in Ain Defla province, 146 km from the capital, Algiers.
The paper added that the security forces also killed one of the leaders of the Armed Islamic Group, known as Yahya in Almayen Wazdin, in an ambush. The paper indicated that some 11 gunmen surrendered themselves to the security forces in Chlef district, 208 km from the capital Algiers.
