Palestine, Business, 6/4/1999

The Palestinian Communications Company started executive steps for establishing the first network for mobile phones in Gaza and Ariha, aiming at attracting the Palestinian agent's participants in the Israeli mobile service.

Hatem El-Halawani, head of the company, said the mobile network is already in place in Gaza, built by experts from Sweden, France and Egypt, adding that the service will include its own area code to differentiate it from the service of the Israeli network.

The Swedish Company Ericsson presents technical support for this network, which has a capacity of 120,000 in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

The value of the contract reached $40 million, and the number of Palestinian participants in the Israeli mobile net reaches 80,000 participants.
