Khartoum accuses Eritrea of launching attacks on its borders

The Sudanese government on Thursday accused Eritrea of continuing launching of attacks on the Sudanese borders, despite the reconciliation agreement reached by the two countries in Qatar in May.

In a statement quoted by the Sudanese dailies issued on Thursday, the Sudanese Defense minister Abdul Rahman Surr al-Khatam expressed his regret over Eritrea's continued aggressions against the Sudanese eastern borders despite the "good intention declaration and the positive atmospheres which prevailed Doha agreement between President Omar Hassan al-Bashir of Sudan and Eritrea's President Assyas Afworki.

The Sudanese minister expressed hope that the Doha agreement of would be converted into real implementation, adding that the Sudanese army " backs the efforts aiming at spreading stability and security in the region." He at the same time, stressed that the Sudanese army " shoulders the responsibility of protecting the Sudanese oil which is of great importance for achieving economic development in the country."
