A statement from Incirlik air base in Turkey said that jets flying as part of Operation Northern Watch, which patrols the no-fly zone in northern Iraq, attacked Iraqi military positions south of Mosul. Saudi official television said on Wednesday that King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz on Wednesday night left the hospital following a series of medical checkups with satisfactory results. Well-informed sources told the Lebanese daily al-Nahar that the US conveyed two days ago to sides concerned in Beirut an Israeli proposal that calls for the Lebanese resistance to freeze its operations in Jezzine and south Lebanon to help the promise to maintain withdrawal from Lebanon. The Lebanese daily added that the Israeli proposal was rejected by Lebanon, Syria and the Lebanese resistance. Go

Jordanian Agriculture Minister Hashem al-Shabboul has asserted that matters relating to the territories located on the border strip with Syria will be "ready" during the next month. In a statement to the Jordanian daily al-Dostour issued on Wednesday, the Jordanian minister said that the area of the uncultivated lands is estimated at 27,000 dunums, owned by Jordanian citizens in al-Ramtha, al-Tarra, al-Shajara, Amrawa and al-Zneiba. He stated that a Jordanian- Syrian joint committee continues work in order to put a solution to this matter. Go

Algerian security forces have killed some nine members of the Armed Islamic Group during vast mopping-up operations in the provinces of Ain Defla, Chlef and Tebessa. Meanwhile, the Algerian daily al-Khabar revealed that two persons were killed and another wounded in a bomb explosion when a truck carrying them passed by in Sidi Bel Abbes province. Go
