Economic unity council calls for Arab common market, lifting sanctions off Iraq, and Libya

At the conclusion of the 69th session of the council for Arab economic unity chaired by Palestine, confirmed the importance of lifting sanctions imposed on Iraq for more than nine years to remove the suffering of the Iraqi people.
The council, moreover, confirmed the importance of maintaining the unity, sovereignty and safety of Iraq's territories, in addition to opposing interference in Iraq's internal affairs and the no-fly zones imposed on northern and southern Iraq. He also called on the Arab states to take suitable measures in trade with Iraq.
Concerning Libya, the council welcomed the response of the international community to the positive position of Libya concerning the treatment of the Lockerbie issue and the suspension of the embargo imposed on it.
The council, also called for the embargo on Libya to be completely lifted (UN sanctions are currently suspended), confirming its solidarity with Libya in light of its efforts to remove the bad effects and harm that resulted of the embargo.
Concerning the Arab common market and upgrading trade exchange, the council confirmed the importance of activating Arab common market and resuming the application of its provisions, starting from January 1, 2000.
The council asserted the importance of taking an Arab stand toward economic and political developments in the region and its probable reflections on the stability, peace and safety of Arab peoples.
Moreover, the council welcomed Egypt's call for convening an Arab mini-summit that is to be followed by an Arab expanded summit to discuss the current situation.
