Regional, Politics, 6/3/1999
Arab League Assistant Secretary General Mohammed Zakaraia Ismail criticized the partial withdrawal of the Israeli-allied South Lebanon Army militia from Jezzine city from south Lebanon.
Ismail told ArabicNews.com today that "This withdrawal is (meant) to create a problem between Syria and Lebanon."
Meanwhile, the government of outgoing Israeli Prime Minister Netenyahu was faced with criticism for failing to protect the SLA militia during its withdrawal from Jezzine.
Ismail said, "The goal of withdrawing from Jezzine is nothing but an attempt to avoid settlement to a complete settlement."
He added, "If Israel is serious in the peace process it has to withdraw fully with no conditions from south Lebanon according to what was stated in United Nations resolution 425."
