Lebanese resistance continues operations
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 6/3/1999

Israeli warplanes on Tuesday night raided the outskirts of Melekh and al-Rayhan towns to the south of Jezzine district. Lebanese security sources said Israeli rockets hit the target area, but no casualties were reported.

On Wednesday, an Israeli helicopter raided the mountainous areas of al-Tuffah district. The Israeli jets, moreover, carried out a series of raids on areas in the south, al-Tuffah district and the western Bekaa.

Israeli artillery in Teir Harfa position on Wednesday morning shelled the edges of Majdal Zoun and Jib Sweid in the western sector of south Lebanon, according to Lebanese security sources. The Israeli shelling was accompanied by intensive flights of Israeli helicopters at low altitudes over the liberated villages adjacent to the occupied strip of south Lebanon.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese resistance on Wednesday in Beirut released a statement on the attack the resistance men carried out against a pro-Israeli militia convoy while it was withdrawing from Jezzine district.

The Lebanese resistance said in a statement that resistance forces ambushed the convoy with machine guns and rockets, destroying and setting on fire to an armored vehicle and four armored personnel carriers and killing or wounding their occupants.

The statement noted that the confrontations and clashes between the Lebanese resistance and the pro-Israeli militia were still going on at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday.

On Tuesday night, the pro-Israeli South Lebanon Army militia withdrew part of their military equipment and machinery from the city of Jezzine. News reports from Jezzine said the militia was still positioned inside the city closing off the crossings. The pro-Israeli militia on Wednesday morning started dismantling Ein al-Taghra position in the context of their withdrawal from the Jezzine district.

Reports by the Lebanese resistance stated that with the completion of artillery withdrawal from al-Taghra hill, the southwest flank of Kafer Honeh will be free of pro-Israeli artillery which used to target the Lebanese villages to the east of Sidon and the western part of the al-Tuffah district.

By the completion of dismantling the strategic points of the pro-Israeli SLA militias in western Jezzine area, the militia's presence is limited to the eastern Jezzine area towards Kafer Houneh.

The SLA militia's forces evacuated over 20 villages in Jezzine on Tuesday while retaining a unit in the square of the city. Lebanese internal security forces started on Tuesday patrolling in the villages of the Jezzine district from which the SLA militia had already withdrawn.
