Some 203 members of the Israeli-allied SLA militia on Tuesday announced their withdrawal from this militia. Lebanese television on Tuesday night quoted Rev. Poulis Khund, the chairman of Sayedat Mashmoushah, as saying, "The hireling elements have signed statements providing for surrendering themselves to the Lebanese (government) and in putting themselves at the disposal of the Lebanese justice." United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan condemned an Israeli mortar attack in south Lebanon that killed William Kedian, a member of the Irish contingent in UNIFIL (the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon), the UN secretary general's spokesman, Fred Eckhard said, reading a statement. Go

US jets attacked "Iraqi military command and control facilities" located to the south of Mosul, a statement from Incirlik air base in Turkey said. US F-16 and F-15 jets bombed the facilities after coalition aircraft flying as part of Operation Northern Watch enforcing the no-fly zone over northern Iraq were targeted by Iraqi radar, the statement said. It added that the aircraft returned safely to their base. Go

Israeli Minister of the Interior Avigdor Kahalani on Tuesday asserted that a sum of 14 million Israeli shekels has been frozen within the past few months, funds which were to be transferred to the settlement units in the occupied Golan at a time when talks are being made on resuming negotiations on the Syrian track. The Jordanian weekly al-Bilad quoted Russian diplomatic sources as saying that intensive contacts are currently being made between Moscow and Damascus in order to set a new date for President Hafez al-Assad's visit to Moscow. The paper added, quoting the sources, that Russia will provide Syria with spare parts for armored vehicles and anti-tank weapons, which are all defensive weapons. Go
