Mauritania's ambassador in Cairo denies Israeli nuclear waste buried in Mauritania
Mauritania, Politics, 6/2/1999
Ould Baha, the Mauritanian ambassador in Cairo, before leaving Cairo to assume his new post as his countries ambassador in Saudi Arabia, renewed his country's denial that it buried Israeli nuclear waste, which surfaced after to a visit paid by the Mauritanian foreign minister to Israel, the Palestinian areas and Jordan.
In press statements, Ould Baha said that these reports have nothing to do with truth, as the visit of the Mauritania's foreign minister to Israel after the Wye River accord between the Israelis and Palestinians came to encourage the accord's implementation, but the Mauritanian opposition exploited the news and exaggerated it. He said Mauritania did not accept any nuclear waste from anyone.
The Mauritanian ambassador denied any cooperation between Mauritania and Israel, saying that reports of an Israeli delegation's visit to Nouakchott has nothing to do with truth and that the relations between Mauritania and Tel Aviv began due to the Madrid conference and agreements signed between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
