Report: Rabinovich holds talks in Washington
Syria-Israel-USA, Politics, 6/2/1999
The Egyptian weekly al-Osbo has said that talks which were held in Washington by the former Israeli ambassador to the US and the secret envoy for Israeli Prime Minister-elect Ehud Barak centered on briefing the US administration on the content of the work plan concerning only peace negotiations on the Syrian track.
The sources added that Barak asked in his plan for the separation of the Syrian and Lebanese tracks, revealing his readiness to sign a peace agreement with the Lebanese within a short period of time, but Barak linked that to certain security matters.
Barak indicated in his plan that he has important ideas concerning Syria. But he explained that this depends on the Syrian administration. He called for convening explanatory talks between Syria and Israel and stressed the importance of holding such talks in one of the region's countries and with the participation and presence of the US.
