Salvation front founder: Bouteflika's solutions are positive
Algeria, Politics, 6/1/1999
Sheikh Ahmed Merani a founder of the prohibited Islamic Salvation Front and former Algerian minister of religious affairs described a letter from Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika as "good."
Merani said Bouteflika referred in his speech to the nation to many solutions to the raised problems.
He added, "It is important to embody and apply these solutions because the Algerian people were exposed to difficult circumstances and numerous promises and they want to see reforms and results in the field." and that these solutions will be carried out by the authorities to implement Bouteflika's program.
Regarding the future of the Islamic Salvation Front, Merani said, "We cannot talk about one entity in the name of the salvation front, especially after dissolving it, but we can talk about the salvation front(s), and no one can talk in the name of the front that existed before 1991, whose dissolution was logical after the mistakes committed by Abbas Wadani and Ali Bilhaj."
