During his visit to Abu Dhabi, Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh has met with several former leaders of the Yemeni Socialist Party.
Among those figures were the former South Yemen President Ali Nasser Muhammad, who denied reports that he will be a candidate in the presidential elections.
President Saleh also met in Abu Dhabi with Socialist Party political bureau member Salem Saleh Muhammad.
President Saleh also talked on the telephone with Yassin Saeed Numan, Muhammad Saeed Muhsin and Abdul Aziz al-Dali.
Well-informed sources in Sanaa said that President Saleh reiterated his call on the socialist leaders to "return to the homeland and resume their political activities."
Meanwhile, the Yemeni government praised the results of talks that President Saleh held with UAE President Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan al- Nahyan in Abu Dhabi on Saturday and Sunday to develop bilateral relations.
On Monday, UAE Minister of Information and Culture Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed discussed with the Yemeni president in Sanaa as well as officials in the Yemeni government the fields of cooperation and boosting relations. Yemeni sources said talks between Sheikh Zayed and President Saleh dealt with developing relations in various fields and centered on the question of Arab solidarity and convening an Arab summit.
In this respect, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed stressed during his meeting with his Yemeni counterpart, Abdul Malik Mansour, that the visit of President Saleh to Yemen "has reflected the continuous development of relations between the two countries and asserted the policies pursued by the two countries and leaders in reviving Arab solidarity."
Meanwhile, former Yemeni President Ali Nasser Muhammad (who is the chairman of the Arab Center for Strategic Studies, with Damascus as a headquarters) has denied reports that he nominated himself for the presidency in the coming Presidential elections due to be held in Yemen by the end of next September.
In a press statement issued in Sanaa on Monday Nasser Muhammad said the idea of nomination for the presidency is at the meantime "beyond my own calculation and my interests are now poured on the center which I give my utmost time and efforts to ensure its success, the center wins the backing of President Saleh." He asserted that his relations with the Yemeni parties are strong and, "I invest these relations in the service of Yemen and for its stability."
