Morocco's tripartite commission in charge of social dialogue will meet early next june
Morocco, Politics, 5/31/1999
The Moroccan government, employers and major trade unions will hold early next June a new round of meetings to assess the progress made in the implementation of the accords reached last April.
Moroccan minister of social development, solidarity, employment and vocational training, Khalid Alioua, said the tripartite commission will meet at the request of Secretary General of "Confederation Democratique du Travail" (CDT), Noubir Amaoui.
In a letter addressed to the Moroccan premier, the CDT chief called for the holding of an emergency meeting of the tripartite commission to settle workers' grievances.
The Moroccan government is determined to carry on dialogue with all social partners to find the appropriate solutions to the workers' claims, Alioua said, recalling the positive results achieved during the 1st round meeting of the tripartite commission.
The three socioeconomic partners (Government, Trade Unions and Employers) had agreed during their first encounter to promote employment, low-cost lodgings and create the appropriate atmosphere for the encouragement of investments.
They also agreed on the respect of trade unions' freedom, extension of social welfare coverage and encouragement of low-cost lodging projects.
The government had pledged to allocate around $ 77 Mln for the creation of an employment agency and vowed to devote 2 % of its investment budget to the building of low-cost lodgings.
The Moroccan government also set the minimum retirement pensions at 500 DH (around $ 51) and decided to reintegrate a number of civil servants dismissed for unionist activities. For its part, the private sector agreed to contribute 3 % of its net profit to housing projects in return for some fiscal incentives.
