Moroccan writer and philosopher, Mohamed Abed El Jabri, has won the 1999 Maghreb culture prize for his outstanding contributions to the Arab and universal cultural heritage.
The Moroccan thinker, who received Thursday in Tunis the prize from Tunisian president Zine Al-Abidine Ben Ali, said the distinction is an honor for Morocco and Moroccan intellectuals.
The Tunisian president congratulated El Jabri for obtaining the prize, which he said, is a recognition for his efforts to develop Arab culture and show its human and international dimension.
The prize, set up in 1993, rewards the best Maghreban intellectual or personality for noteworthy literary, artistic or scientific works in favor of Maghreban and Arab unity.
