UNDOF extends work in the Golan

The UN Security Council has unanimously on Thursday approved a resolution that provides for extending presence of the UNDOF in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights for another six months until October 30, 1999.
In a statement released on this occasion, the UN Security Council said the Middle East region will stay "potentially dangerous" unless "a comprehensive settlement covering all aspects of the Middle East problem can be reached." UNDOF comprises troops from Australia, Canada, Japan, Poland and Slovakia with a total number of 1,048.
