Jordan, Economics, 5/27/1999

Jordanian Minister of Finance Michel Marto said that the meeting of the G7 industrial countries' governments that will be held in the German City of Cologne during the coming month will discuss the striking of Jordan's debts.

In press statements, Marto said he discussed the subject of striking a part of Jordan's debts with some representatives of the countries participating in the Paris Club meeting, in addition to officials of the International Monetary Fund during his visits to Paris and Washington during the last two weeks.

Before visiting Paris to attend the meetings of the Paris Club countries in the French capital last week that resulted in the club's countries' approval of rescheduling about $800 million of the debts owed by Jordan to the club's members.

Marto and the US representative at Paris Club have discussed using American influence in rescheduling the amount and raising up the subject of striking a part of Jordan's debts in the G7 meeting next month.
