Yemen proposes mediation for Kuwaiti prisoners in Iraq
Yemen-Kuwait, Politics, 5/27/1999

Yemeni Parliament Speaker Sheikh Abdullah al-Ahmar has expressed his personal readiness as well as that of the Yemeni parliament to take part in closing the issue of the Kuwaiti prisoners in Iraq.

He expressed optimism over Iraq's response to Yemeni efforts in this respect and said considered the restoration of relations between Yemen and Kuwait as a "natural matter," in statements to the state-owned al-Wahda newspaper.

He stated that Yemen did not sever relations with Kuwait. He said, "Our country did not close down the Kuwaiti embassy in Sanaa, rather the Kuwaiti embassy was kept open during the past nine years, working normally."

He resumed as saying "now following the boycott , after the reopening the Yemeni embassy in Kuwait and the success and the success of the visit by Yemeni Foreign Minister Abd al-Karim al-Iryani to Kuwait , relations have once again become remarkable between the two countries as in the past."
