Sudanese government pardons Nimeiri

The Sudanese daily al-Anba said on Tuesday that the Sudanese government has informed former Sudanese President Jaafar Nimeiri that he has been pardoned.
The Sudanese paper added that the pardon was issued in May 1998 for crimes Nimeiri had been accused of committing during his rule of Sudan between May 25, 1969 until he was toppled on April 6, 1985.
The paper added that Nimeiri received a copy of the pardon from the advisor of the Sudanese presidency, Abdul Baset Sabdrat, before he returned to Khartourn on last Saturday following a 14-year in exile in Cairo.
