Cheops Pyramid to be opened in days

Minister of Culture Farouk Hosni is to open soon the Cheops (Khufu) Pyramid after 13-month closure for comprehensive rejuvenation and treatment of humidity on its walls as well as introducing new ventilation system.
   
Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Antiquities (SCA) Gaballa Ali Gaballa said the Chephren pyramid will be closed for the same reason, an official statement said.
   
Director of Giza Antiquities Department Zahi Hawas said the Permanent Antiquities Committee approved his proposal to confine Cheops Pyramid visitors to 300 a day, instead of 5,000 on two morning and evening periods.
   
"Large numbers of visitors caused the increase of humidity inside the pyramid by 85 per cent, cracks inside the Great Lobby and 5-centimeter-thick salination," said Hawas.
   
On another development, antiquities Under School Wall Monumental columns, statues and golden coins, probably dating back to the pharaonic era, were unearthed while for a wall offense between two schools at a village in Menya El-Qamh, Shorqiya Governor.
   
Councilor Mustafa Hassan, Attorney-General of Sharqiya Prosecution, decided to appoint heavy guard on the site in the village, Shobra El-Enab and send for archaeologists to check the find and see whether there is a pharaonic tomb.
