Syrian - Iraqi transport talks in Damascus

A round of Iraqi - Syrian talks held on Monday at the Syrian Ministry of Transport in Damascus. It was attended by Syrian Transport Minister Mufid Abdul Karim and his Iraqi counterpart, Ahmad Murtada Ahmad, as well as members of the two negotiating delegations.
The two sides discussed means of maintaining cooperation in the areas of sea, land and railway transport between the two countries.
The Syrian minister asserted the importance of developing economic and trade relations between the two states and taking part in the process of development. He added: "We have great potential and common work areas for cooperation in the field of transport and other fields. We have to invest and develop for the benefits of our two peoples and countries."
He indicated the importance of exchanging technical expertise and of becoming familiar with work mechanisms in the areas of sea and land transportation and railways in the two countries to benefit from these relations in fostering ties between Syria and Iraq.
For his part, the Iraqi minister stressed the importance of discussing means of cooperating in trade areas between the two countries.
The two negotiating sides also discussed means of maintaining cooperation in the fields of land transport, monitoring trucks and general transport means. They also discussed the maintenance of vehicles, tankers and trucks between the two countries.
