New Middle East map coming says Israeli Knesset member
Regional-Israel, Politics, 5/24/1999
Member of the Israeli Knesset for the Labor Party, Yossi Beilin, has said he expects that during the coming phase "a new Middle East map" will emerge on the ground of resuming negotiations with Israel.
In an interview aired on Sunday with Israeli army radio, Beilin said, "The Gaza - Damascus" axis which is being crystallized will not have adverse impact on the possible negotiations. He added that holding comprehensive negotiations between Israel and the Arab states and on all tracks was an objective of the policy of former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.
On the probable Israeli withdrawal from south Lebanon, Beilin said, "I have always believed that withdrawal from south Lebanon should be immediate but to be linked to resuming negotiations with Syria."
