Morocco joins world meteorological organization executive council

Morocco was elected Wednesday member of the executive council of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) which is holding currently its 13th congress in Geneva.
Morocco will represent north Africa in the council of the United Nations' specialized agency in weather, climate, water and atmosphere.
The mission of the Geneva-based body, gathering 185 member countries, is to facilitate international cooperation in the establishment of networks of stations for making meteorological, hydrological and other observations.
WMO also aims to promote the rapid exchange of meteorological information and provides the authoritative scientific voice on the state and behavior of the Earth's atmosphere and climate.
It sees to the application of meteorology services to aviation, shipping, water problems, agriculture and other human activities, promotes operational hydrology and encourages research and training in meteorology.
The WMO Congress, which is the supreme body of WMO, meets every four years. It determines policies, approves the programme and budget and adopts regulations.
