Regional-Africa, Economics, 5/22/1999

A seminar regarding African industry and the effect of globalization on it will be convened in Cairo on Monday on the margins of the annual meeting of the African Development Bank.

Representatives from the private and public sectors will participate in this seminar, which will be organized by the United Nation Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

Majda Ghorshid, the information manager for the United Nations in Cairo, said yesterday, "The participants in the seminar will discuss the effect of globalization in Africa, especially regarding the fields of trade, competition and direct foreign investment in the production and industry sectors."

She referred to "the various points of view regarding industry in Africa, its weak and strong points, and the participation of multinational companies in partnership with the private sector in Africa as well as encouraging investment on the internal and external levels."
