Palestine, Politics, 5/22/1999
The Palestinian leadership called today on Israel to stop its settlement operations started during the election campaign in Israel in the last month that included Ras al-Amoud, Gebel Abu Ghneim, Jerusalem and Nablus.
The Palestinian leadership said in a statement following its meeting in Nablus that, "This campaign should stop immediately to give the peace process the chance it deserves'.
In its statement, the Palestinian leadership condemned the assassination of an intelligence official for the Fatah movement near Sidon, Lebanon and assaulting one of its members in the Lebanese south and described it as "a horrible crime from the enemies of the Palestinian people."
