Algerian, Tunisian, Moroccan leaders exchange messages
Algeria-Tunisia, Politics, 5/21/1999
Tunisian President Zein El-Abedin Ben Ali received a written message from Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika answering the congratulation message sent by Ben Ali after Bouteflika's victory in Algeria's presidential elections.
Diplomatic sources in Cairo said the message sent by Bouteflika tackled the importance of activating the Maghrebean relations and closing the issue of disputes.
Bouteflika sent a written message to Morocco's King Hassan II that tackled bilateral relations between the two states and the importance of opening a new page in relations between the two countries and resolving the suspended issues.
The sources said there is progress in the Algerian - Moroccan relations, but they feared the possibility of the Polisario front's attendance to the African summit to be held in July in Algeria, as Morocco withdrew from the Organization of African Unity in protest over the organization's acceptance of the Polisario's membership.
