Syria-Jordan, Economics, 5/21/1999
Syrian Prime Minister Mahmoud al-Zou'bi on Thursday received Jordanian Minister of Irrigation Kamel Mahadin and discussed with him joint water projects between the two countries and means of developing and diversifying them, SANA said.
The prime minister stressed the importance of "continued contacts between Damascus and Amman in this regard."
Following the meeting, the Jordanian minister told journalists that building al-Wahda dam in al-Yarmouk dam is a Syrian-Jordanian matter and that Israel does not oppose its construction.
He described his talks with his Syrian counterpart, Abdul Rahman al-Madani, as "fruitful, excellent and remarkable."
The Jordanian minister added that in the very short term, the construction process in the dam will start. It will take four years to be completed. Its storage capacity is some 225 million cubic meters and it will be financed by Arab funds.
