1.2 million participants in Tunisian phone network by end of 2001

Tunisian economic sources in Cairo expected today an increase in the number of participants in the telephone network to 1.2 million by the end of 2001, which is the date for completing the current five-year plan.
It is also expected that the percentage of digital phones will increase from 97% to 99% at the end of current year.
The Tunisian government specified $1.4 billion in the current five-year plan whose implementation started two years ago. It called for developing the Mobile phone network, which could provide more than 100,000 lines in the coming year.
