U.S EX-IM Bank wants to contribute to developing Morocco-US Partnership
Morocco-USA, Economics, 5/19/1999

The American Export-Import (EX-IM) Bank on Tuesday voiced the will to contribute to the development of trade exchange and business partnership between Morocco and the USA.

The U.S EX-IM Bank is determined to seize all opportunities to promote Moroccan-American trade exchange, Ms. Maria Luisa Haley, a member of the Bank's governing board, said at a meeting organized in Casablanca by the American Chamber of Commerce in Morocco "AMCHAM."

Ms. Haley added that she is touring North Africa to inform enterprises on funding possibilities offered by the EX-IM Bank, explore means of developing partnership between the bank and the region's financial institutions, and identify the expectations of North African economic operators.

Moroccan small and medium enterprises can benefit from the bank's financing possibilities for the purchase of American products, she said.

The bank disbursed over the past 20 years more than $900 million to finance American exports toward Morocco. Over the same period, the Moroccan carrier Royal Air Maroc "RAM" got $500 million for the purchase of planes.

The Ex-Im bank, which is already involved in the power plant project of Jorf Lasfar (220 km south of Rabat), is willing to participate in other projects.

Moroccan enterprises can also benefit from the bank's experience in environment-related projects, Ms. Haley added.

Ex-Im bank is an autonomous body that contributes to financing the sale of American goods and services to foreign countries. The bank's backing to such operations amounted to over $300 billion during the past 60 years.
