Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz is to leave Saudi Arabia today and on Thursday starts a five-day official visit to South Africa, marking the beginning of a 25-day tour which will also include Italy, Morocco, Syria, Jordan and Egypt.
News reports in Saudi Arabia said the Saudi crown prince will discuss in Johannesburg with President Nelson Mandela means of supporting the Libyan position in the process of completing steps of the Saudi- South Africa mediation to settle the issue of Lockerbie as well as studying bilateral issues, foremost being the economic issue.
Saudi Arabia and South Africa are expected to discuss a comprehensive agreement during the meeting. An African diplomat described relations between the two countries as "good and developed."
The Saudi crown prince is accompanied by a high-ranking delegation including the ministers of foreign affairs, trade, oil and industry. Saudi Defense Minister Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz visited South Africa at the end of September 1997 at the invitation of the President Nelson Mandela of South Africa, which indicated a joint desire by the two countries to strengthen cooperation in various fields, especially in encouraging joint investment and efforts to increase trade exchange volume.
