Israeli elections and Syrian officials
Syria, Politics, 5/19/1999
The Monte Carlo Radio correspondent in Damascus said on Tuesday that the Syrian officials have not commented yet on the results of the Israeli elections, despite the notable follow up the election process in Israel has won on Monday night on the public and official level in Syria.
The correspondent added that the official sources in Damascus showed "reservations" towards "extreme" optimism for Barak, noting that "What is important is not the name of the winning candidate, rather his own acts, whether it will be conductive to achieving full withdrawal from the Golan and south Lebanon."
The Syrian official sources called upon the international community to rapidly move "on the occasion of the change in Israel" in order to ensure Israel's withdrawal from the occupied Arab territories, noting the impossibility of separating the Syrian and Lebanese tracks.
